From a conversation with Dr. Agide Campana the idea took shape of producing disposable biomedical articles and so it was that Dr. Mario Veronesi set up the first company in the future district; its name was MIRASET (MIRA for Mirandola, and SET from the line of PVC tubes manufactured there).
Comef S.p.a. di Ottavio Ferrari, founded in that same year, is a manufacturer of plastic connectors for fastening to infusion bottle caps and drip-feed needles.

On 16 November, Dr. Veronesi set up his first industrial plant, STERILPLAST in Medolla.

The US giant TYCO acquired MALLINCKRODT.

Dr. Veronesi resigned as President of Mallinckrodt and, after just a few weeks, started working again as a partner of Starmed S.p.a.
