Product Description

B.Braun Avitum Italy S.p.A. manufactures and distributes in Italy for the Avitum B. Braun AG Division, which in turn is part of the German B. Braun multinational group that in 2013 had a turnover of € 5.167 billion with 49,574 employees in more than 50 countries worldwide.

In particular, B. Braun Avitum Italy specializes in design, production and marketing of therapeutic systems for dialysis, apheresis, parenteral and enteral nutrition, and other extracorporeal blood treatments.

Founded as a trading company in 1991 in Mirandola near Modena , in the so-called “Plastic Valley” land of pioneers in the biomedical field , B. Braun Avitum Italy SpA started with the name ” B. Braun Carex ” a joint venture between B.Braun Milan and Carex European Group , and then was fully acquired by B. Braun Milan in 1993. In the light of its early successes , B. Braun Carex expanded the range of its activities in 1994, by acquiring certain businesses from Carex European Group such as manufacturing and research and development. Thanks to experienced technicians the latter service has helped the development of equipment such as Diapact CRRT ( for acute dialysis treatment and therapeutic apheresis ) and Plasmat Futura ( for the selective treatment of hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia ) . In particular, the company’s core business is focused on extracorporeal treatments (dialysis and apheresis) and parenteral and enteral nutrition , therapeutic applications which are still the subject of specialization of B.Braun Avitum Italy SpA.

In 2003, B. Braun GmbH MEDIZINTECHNOLOGIE delegated an important area of activity to the company in Mirandola, that of Regulatory Affairs : the interface management with the competent authorities is in fact totally transferred to B. Braun Carex , with the formation of a work group which is still active today and is in charge , among other things, of the worldwide registration of the products manufactured by the Division. In 2004, B. Braun MEDIZINTECHNOLOGIE GmbH acquires 100 % of the shares of B. Braun Carex , and four years later both companies change their name respectively to B. Braun Avitum AG and B. Braun Avitum Italy SpA. Since 2007, B. Braun Avitum Italy has been identified as a Center of Excellence of the B. Braun group for tubes and microtubes intended for extracorporeal blood circulation , and the same recognition came in 2010 for devices intended for enteral nutrition . The earthquake in May 2012 severely damaged the company , without however stopping its activity. Thanks to the rapid repair and restoration it was possible to go back into the clean room and some of the offices in July 2012 , and into all the others by the end of August. A third of the plant (3,000 sqm) , comprising the chemical and biological labs, part of the warehouse and the production department of concentrated acids for hemodialysis was completely demolished and rebuilt in just seven months and has been fully operational since the end of January 2013 . (insert photo warehouse , workshops, and cq ) The opening ceremony of the new plant , built entirely in wood according to sustainable criteria , anti- seismic and fire-resistant, was held March 1, 2013 , in the presence of local and regional institutions.

At the end of January 2013 B.Braun Avitum Italy also opened another fully automated ethylene oxide sterilization plant and its related system of forced degassing.

The company, which started back in 1991 with only 4 employees, today has a workforce of over 250, and , despite the devastating effects of the earthquake, was able to exceed a € 50 million turnover in 2012, amounting to an 8% increase compared to 2011.
